Easter time in Te Pihi!

We made some Easter crafts this week. We did some art work making patterns on an Easter Bunny shape. We then coloured in some sunglasses to make our Easter Bunnies look cool! We also made an egg basket with coloured card and filled it with shredded paper so we could lay our chocolate Easter eggs inside.

A visit from Austen's guinea pigs

This morning Austen and his mum brought their guinea pigs to visit us.

We got to touch them and some of us got to hold them. They felt soft and fluffy and they were cute!

And Thomas got a fright because the girl guinea pig had sharp claws!
Nova learnt that some guinea pigs have pink eyes.
April learnt that they like to eat lots of lettuce and grass.
Jackson learnt that they munch loudly!

Thank you Toni and Austen! We enjoyed learning about having a guinea pig for a pet!

Fraction Fun

Yummy Maths!

In Te Pihi we have been learning about fractions; half and quarter.

We cut some muesli bar squares.

Quarters mean 4 pieces.

Our group of four people got 1 piece each to eat.

Here is one whole watermelon.

Cut it in half. 1/2
Mmmm not enough to share yet.

Quarters? 1/4
Still only 4 pieces.

Eighths? Still not fair to share.

Sixteenths? Yes! Now there's enough for 1 piece each!

We love Summer!

It's so sweet!

And slurpy...

...And drippy!

The Big Feelings Tractor Trek

The Big Feelings Tractor Trek visited our school. A whole lot of tractors were parked up on our school field. They were travelling the North Island talking to students in schools about coping with sad feelings and who to talk to about these sad feelings. We got to look at them close up and sit on them. It was so much fun!!!

Te Tiriti o Te Pihi

Te Pihi have been learning about The Treaty of Waitangi!

We read the Tree Hut Treaty and discussed problem solving, making agreements and promises.

Then we agreed on some promises for our class for this year, so that we can all work, learn and play happily.

Each person in our class signed our treaty, even the teachers.

When we signed we agreed to the treaty.

A treaty is a list of promises.

We are all happy with our treaty which is called Te Tiriti o Te Pihi
or Te Pihi's Treaty.
