What's Important in Te Pihi

Tena koutou katoa,

Over the first half of Term 1 we have been focusing on our school values: Excellence - Hiranga, Diversity -Rereketanga, Integrity - Ngakau, Community & Partnerships - Porihanga, Environment - Kaitiakitanga.
We began our term by discussing and signing our class treaty.

Our shared stories each week have been: Cowboys Can be Kind, Princesses Love to Share, The Caring Ballerina, and The Pirate who said Please. When someone in the class is spotted using these important values, they can wear one of our dress-up costumes for the day. I'm so pleased to say that everyone has shown that they are kind and caring, they share and use their manners! Keep it up Te Pihi! It's going to be a great year!

Ronda from Water Safe has been at our school on Mondays, teaching water safety lessons. Last Monday the children learnt to put on life jackets correctly, floated on their backs and learnt to signal for help holding one arm straight up. They got into a huddle to help one another stay afloat and to keep warm together in an emergency.
This week they practiced floating on their tummies and backs with pool noodles or flutter boards, and learnt to scull the water with their hands.
On Wednesdays and Fridays in our swimming time, we practice what we have learnt from Ronda.
It's great that they are all bringing their togs and towels and learning essential water skills, confidence and safety! We LOVE our swimming time!
