ANZAC Day commemorations in Te Pihi 2024

"ANZAC" stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. ANZAC Day is to remember all the Australian and New Zealanders who gave their lives in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping missions around the world. It is also a time to remember and thank all those who have served and have continued to serve in the Australian and New Zealand armies.

We baked ANZAC biscuits today to remember the soldiers who served our country at war.

Billy is helping to add the ingredients into the bowl.

Millie is helping to mix all the ingredients together.

Frankie is rolling the biscuit mixture into a ball.

And here are our yummy biscuits all ready to eat.

We ate our yummy ANZAC biscuits at the flag pole.

Here are our poppy pictures (done using a YouTube tutorial for kids).

We love drawing!

Our new sound this week in structured literacy was y/Y and the character was Yasmin the yak. Mrs Hammond showed us how to draw tricky pictures using tutorials on YouTube. We learnt how to draw a yak and then we added our own background to make our pictures more personalised. It was so much fun!

Science in a Story

 Cooper the Ant!

Te Pihi read a great story called 'Grant the Ant.' We learnt a lot about an ant colony, the ants' tasks, and their life cycle.
Cooper wrote a great story and was our 'Writer of the Day!'
Then Cooper volunteered to act as an ant and show part of the the life cycle. Science is fun!

The queen lays the eggs.
When the larvae hatch out, they spin a cocoon around themselves.

Breaking out of the cocoon after four months! "How's that!?"

Now he is called a pupae. He wakes up so hungry!

Off goes Cooper the Ant to find food wherever he can.

Mm-mm... yummy ant food at the Seedling Cafe!!

Strike Musical Show

Today Strike Percussion NZ came to perform at our school with their drums and marimba.
And one of the band members played an electric violin (a stringed instrument).

It was an amazing, interactive, high energy show and at times it was very loud!

Sir and Mr Masters had a "teacher drum battle" (a competition).

Some of our students got to have a turn at playing the instruments too.

Who knew that a flame-thrower could be turned into a musical instrument?!!!!!!!
