Go the All Blacks!

Paparore School are getting behind the New Zealand All Blacks for their final game against South Africa (the Springboks) in the Rugby World Cup in Paris, France. We dressed up in black for our school's "Black Out Day" to show our support. Some of us will hopefully get up early on Sunday morning to watch the big game. Good luck ABs from Te Pihi!

A Visit from a NZ Olympic Ambassador - Alexis Pritchard

39 year old former NZ Olympic boxer came to Paparore School this morning. We learnt some important values from her talk this morning
EXCELLENCE
FRIENDSHIP
RESPECT

Here are some ways we can show this:

  1. Never give up when you lose, go back and try again
  2. Show respect for your opponent
  3. Always do your best in anything you do
  4. Be brave, even when you're scared or trying something new

Paparore School Olympics

Today was our Olympics dress-up day at Paparore School.
We had a special visitor come to talk to us all about winning a gold medal at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Canada. He was the goal keeper for the NZ mens' hockey team and saved an important goal which smashed his knee cap. A very interesting fact we learnt was that he is our teacher aide Michele's great uncle!
Then after morning tea we held our own Olympics day and rotated about seven different sports activities. The focus was on participation and as a reward we were given an ice block. It was so much fun!
We played a basketball-running game with Whaea Saroya.
Our long jump Olympian, Sylvie had a good technique!

We had running races.

The gumboot throw was fun.

Rachael enjoyed the shot put.

We played football.

The tug of war.

Project Energize

Project Energize!

We have a new Energize instructor, Whaea Morgana, who comes in to teach us new games every second Monday.
Te Pihi loves to get active and have fun. We also listen and learn to follow instructions, so that the game is played fairly and correctly. We have learnt to play 'Rip the Tail' and 'Builders and Bulldozers.'
Haere mai ki te kura o Paparore Whaea Morgz!

Energize Session with Garth

Two hands in a hoop!
Three feet in the hoop!

We had fun in the whare with Garth today! First we moved like animals to warm-up. Next we had to place different body parts in our hoops. Then we had fun flicking the hoop along the floor.

Rippa Rugby

Today Hannah Shalders from Northland Rugby came to teach us some rugby skills which we can use in the game "Rippa Rugby". We practised passing and catching and played relays where we pretended to score tries and incorporated some running and jumping. Our skills certainly improved in just half an hour! It was heaps of fun!

Swimming

Te Pihi students had fun today playing with the new pool noodles! They discovered how use them to float, blow water out of and pretend they were a horse to ride on! Lots of fun on a warm day.
