Our New Class Mascot!

Hi guys! My name is Russ and Mrs Brydon found me hiding at her house. I have been relaxing in the sun on the deck, because sunshine is great for my immune system. My immune system is what keeps me strong and healthy so I can fight off coughs, colds and viruses. I certainly don't want to catch CoronaVirus! You get Vitamin D from the sun. So I hope you're all playing outside in this sunny weather for a little while each day.

My favourite place to be is looking out of Mrs Brydon's window for children walking or driving past. I hope they see me and call out! I hear that lots of my cuzzies are sitting in people's windows so that kids can spot them. You might like to put one of your teddies in your window?

Does anyone wanna be my friend?

I would love to meet all of you in Te Pihi! So tomorrow (Wed 1st April) at 2pm, I will be 'hanging out' on the Te Pihi Google Meets Hangout. Join in, come and tell me your name! See ya then!
Luv, Russ XOXO

Healthy Hand Washing

Here is a Google slide that I learnt how to make when I went to my DFI (Digital Fluency Intensive) computer course. Now I am practising uploading it to our class blog.

See, teachers are always learning too. Sometimes at home... just like you are...!
Our course on Friday is going to be done through a Google Hangout, so we can all learn from home instead of all travelling to Paihia School.

Stay safe and well everyone! Remember to keep washing your hands too!

Hi from Mrs Hammond!

Learning at Home

Today we are sending out Aroha to the families of students in Te Pihi. This is an unsettling time and we know that you will be doing all you can to keep your families safe and well. In the event of schools closing for a while, the Ministry of Education have asked teachers to prepare material to support learning at home.

Here is what is available for your children.

  1. We have made up packs of 12 books for each student and you are most welcome to come in and pick these up if your children weren't at school today.
  2. Home Writing books for the 100 Writing Club were sent home last week. We encourage all students to practise writing their basic words and/or a sentence or two.
  3. Read stories together and talk about the meanings of interesting words.
  4. Basic sight word learning - continue this daily please.
  5. Mathematics: Number games and counting practise [forwards and backwards to 10/20/50]; Fractions - quarters 1/4 and halves 1/2 - equal sharing of food.

Also we have been trying to make our Te Whare Kiwi website more functional. You should be able to access Reading Eggs, Math Seeds, Oxford Owl and Sunshine books online from this site.

If there is difficulty with logins the username and passwords for Sunshine Books and Oxford Owl is Paparore.

Look after one another, be kind and caring, be proud and passionate learners at home!!

Balloon Fun!

Today we enjoyed some fun with balloons in the school whare!
We explored the easiest way to pop the balloons.

We sorted them into colour groups and counted how many were in each group.

Thank you to Preet's dad for bringing the balloons in for us to have fun with. We look forward to sharing some of our writing soon!

Rippa Rugby

Today Hannah Shalders from Northland Rugby came to teach us some rugby skills which we can use in the game "Rippa Rugby". We practised passing and catching and played relays where we pretended to score tries and incorporated some running and jumping. Our skills certainly improved in just half an hour! It was heaps of fun!

Team building

Today we had to work as a team to build a hut using blankets and other materials we could find in our classroom. We enjoyed helping each other and then we got to take toys inside our huts and play in them for a short while. Lloyd made an entrance and a toilet for his group's hut. Preet used our giant Snakes and Ladders game to make walls for his group's hut and Carter discovered that you could "connect" two tables by using a blanket and some heavy weights to hold it down which made an even bigger hut! So much fun as you can see!

Sorting M & Ms.

In our table groups we had to sort our packet of M&Ms into their colour groups, then graph our results. We found out that the numbers in every packet were very different!
